I’m stuck (or indulging) in a weeks-long catchup mode for giant omeba -like tasks, and I’m doing my best to avoid looking at e-mail more than once every day or so. It’s mid-summer on campus, and I will admit that part of my e-mail slowdown is fear of what will pop up as much as a desire to get my own work done. The summer is silly season as much in academe as in politics because many faculty are out of town on various expeditions, serious and not, and the downtime is when both serious and

Snikiddy ! Family friendly snack foods made from wholesome ingredients Yummmmm! Well, these snacks were definitely friendly to my family!
It was so much fun opening the box of snacks that I received! My guys immediately opened the chocolate chip cookies – I got to try one of them before they and their friends took care of the box. But that left me with plenty of time to enjoy the cheese puffs. I didn’t finish all of them – yet – but my favorites are the Grilled Cheese Puffs and t
Angel Food Ministries – new and improved! open to all! save big on groceries
What a lovely greeting this morning! This egg box was in my order from Angel Food this month. I blogged about Angel Food last spring and gave it a try myself. But though the concept was admirable – food sold in box units for up to 50% saving – the end result left a lot to be desired as much of the contents were things I would not buy. Overprocessed and not that fresh. In July I got an email from Round Hill Baptist EPIC Ministry – my local Angel Food distributor, promising that there h

I was excited to see that Costco is now carrying gluten free kids meals and gluten free pre-packaged lunches. The “ready to eat” lunches are 24 lunches for $114 and the kids meals are priced at 12 for $52.99. Both are available from the Costco website in addition to the warehouse stores. Unfortunately… my excitement was shortlived when I looked a bit closer…. VERY IMPORTANT — The ready to serve lunches are gluten free but not dairy free. I crossed them off my Costco list completely.

Review: Van’s All Natural Waffles
I absolutely hate the idea of paying $3.49 for six frozen waffles. Yet, I have been because once summer hits I lose all inclination to stand at the stove and flip pancakes. That’s why Van’s All Natural Waffles have been Big Guy’s breakfast staple of late. Thank heaven Boots doesn’t like them. Funny thing was, it took Big Guy about a week to warm up to the waffles, and that was after he asked for them. The first morning, he insisted on eating them with butter only. I have no idea why.

Ah, soft, tender, golden, soft (did I mention soft?) white rolls: a hidden vice for so many of us.Back in the day, when Wonder Bread was helping build our strong bodies 12 ways, bread was judged by its softness. Your mother made your PB & J on homemade bread? BLECHH. Pepperidge Farm? So… adult. The bread of choice for kids was A) Wonder, or B) Sunbeam (batter-whipped; Little Miss Sunbeam. Remember?)After all, it took a special kind of bread to be able to peel off its crust in one thin strip, t
